There is a very well known national pizza chain that serves a Barbecue Chicken Pizza. We veganized their pizza replacing the chicken with soy curls to come up with our Barbecue Soy Curl Pizza. Use your favorite barbecue sauce for this pizza. For cheese, we used the Follow Your Heart Smoked Gouda, but if you can’t get it, don’t let that stop you from making this delicious pizza. Feel free to use whatever vegan cheese you like. A cheddar style cheese would work great on this pizza too.

Ingredients:

1 pound pizza dough
1 cup soy curls
2 cups hot water
2 no-chicken bouillon cubes
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 cup barbecue sauce, divided
1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
1/4 cup vegan smoked gouda cheese

Directions:

1. In a medium mixing bowl, dissolve the bullion cubes, brown sugar, paprika, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in hot water. Add the soy curls and set aside for 20 minutes to rehydrate. Drain the soy curls, reserving ¼ cup of the soaking liquid and squeeze out as much liquid as possible.

2. Combine 1/2 cup barbecue sauce and reserved soaking liquid in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium high and bring to a simmer. Add the soy curls and toss to combine. Cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Allow them to caramelize slightly.

3. Preheat oven to 500F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coat with corn meal.

4. Roll out the dough to desired thickness and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.

5. Spread the remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce on the dough leaving ½ inch border around the edge. Put the soy curls, onions, and cheese on top of the sauce.

6. Bake for 10 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

7. Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, and serve.
