After months and asking and waiting, our local Whole Foods finally is carrying Eat Pastry Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.  It is like a dream come true!  When I was little, my mom’s idea of baking cookies was using the “slice and bake” roll of cookie dough. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. In college that roll got me through some hard times.  However, once I started baking and developed my own recipe for chocolate chip cookies, refrigerated dough became something solely for snacking, not baking.  After becoming vegan, I thought refrigerated cookie dough was a thing of the past.  Enter Eat Pastry. The amazing people at Eat Pastry have created vegan versions of your favorite refrigerated cookie doughs. Each flavor comes in its own tub that you can eat with a spoon if you cannot wait to bake them.  As they are 100% vegan, there is no fear of salmonella!

I couldn’t wait to get home and try the Chocolate Chip. When I got home I grabbed a spoon and opened up the tub. The dough is soft and pillowy, allowing my spoon to easily scoop out a generous “sample.” I took a bite and was floored. Wow is that good!  Better yet, it does not have that chemically taste that the non-vegan version has. I was in heaven. Part of me actually regretted buying it, as there was now a tub of excellent cookie dough in the refrigerator.

So, it passed the “eat me raw” test with flying colors. Now came the baking portion. The recommended scoop is 1 teaspoon, so the cookies are small.  That just means you can eat more, right?  The directions say to bake for 9-12 minutes, and then allow to cool or “devour immediately.” I found 9 minutes to be perfect.  As I didn’t want to burn my mouth, I opted to eat more dough while the cookies cooled. Once sufficiently cooled, I tried one.  YUM!!! Cookie perfection. And the small size makes a great 2 bite treat.

All baked and ready for eating!

I cannot give Eat Pastry Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough enough praise.  This truly belongs in the “I can’t believe it’s vegan” category.   The only negative about them is that there is a high cookie to chip ratio.  They could use more chips.  But other than that, these are great.

Get to the store now and buy Eat Pastry Cookie Dough. If your local grocery store doesn’t carry it, ask them to get it. When you have a cookie craving, but don’t want to make an entire batch of cookies, just grab the tub, scoop out as many as you want and bake them up. While you’re waiting for them to bake, eating a scoop is perfectly acceptable.
