September is a BIG month me and for the Vegan Mos. Today, September 12, is my Veganniversary. I am 3 years vegan today. Also, September 22 is the anniversary of Vegan Mos. We first went live on September 22, 2013. I cannot believe it has been a year since we first started our blog. There are so many people I want to thank for making this adventure so wonderful.
First and foremost, I have to thank the other half of Vegan Mos, my amazing husband, partner and friend, Ethan. He led the way by going vegan first. Through him I learned more than I ever knew about animal rights and food production. He opened the door for me. While initially a challenge for me, his going vegan enabled me to expand my cooking repertoire and try things I never before imagined. Moreover, Vegan Mos was his brain child. He came up with the idea and one year later, here we are. I love you so much. Thank you for introducing me to such a wonderful and compassionate way of living.
Next I need to thank my incredible friend JL Fields. If you need a cheerleader in your life, someone to support and encourage you, she is the person you want. I have never met someone so passionate about her work and ready to help anyone at a the drop of a hat. JL was the driving force behind getting us to start blogging. It was on a train ride into NYC from New Jersey in May 2013, going to The Seed, that she talked to us about starting a blog. She has been a constant reference source for me. She is very much my vegan fairy godmother. I simply do not have enough time or words in vocabulary to say all that you have done for me and Vegan Mos. So I will simply say, “Thank you JL.”
On to Jasmin Singer and Mariann Sullivan, the drivng forces behind Our Hen House. Your support and friendship means to the world to me. You gave us a chance on your podcast to review cookbooks and helped promote Vegan Mos in a big way. I cannot believe it is almost one year since our first review. You are always selflessly volunteering to taste new recipes for me. You gave us our first TV appearance as well and helped expose us to an even larger audience. You are brilliant women and I am truly honored to be your friend. Your tireless support for animal rights is inspiring.
I have had the good fortune to become friends with some outstanding chefs this past year: Gena Hamshaw, Fran Costigan and Jenne Claiborne. Each of you approach cooking from different perspectives but with one common ingredient, love. You are all masters in your crafts and I am constantly inspired by each of you. Thank you so much for being such great role models for me and for sharing your insights so freely. I am grateful to have your support and encouragement as I delve further into the world of vegan cooking.
Along the way I have met so many incredible people that I simply cannot name them all. I feel like I am giving an award acceptance speech and the music is strarting to play me off. Please know that if I did not mention you, it does not mean that you have not affected my life in a profound way. I am just truly humbled to be part of such a supportive and loving community.
We would not have gotten here with out each and every one of you, so we are giving you the presents! To celebrate my Veganniversary and Vegan Mos’ first birthday, we are having a Big Ass Vegan Raffle. Starting today, you can enter for a change to win: One Vegan Life Coaching Session with me, a copy of Vegan For Her, signed by co-author JL Fields, a copy of Vegan Chocolate by Fran Costigan, a copy of 5 Ingredient Vegan by Jenne Claiborne and a few other surprises thrown in. If you’re already vegan and don’t want the coaching, you can gift the session to someone else, or we can make it a cooking class. We’re flexible on this. Again, thank you all so much for your love and support. We have big things planned for year 2, and we cannot wait to share them with you.
